The Coastal Federation is honored to remember Dr. Joseph Ramus, a very dear friend of the coast and beloved member of the Federation family.
Joe Ramus was a respected professor, prolific researcher, and former Duke University Marine Laboratory director. He was also a long-standing member of the Coastal Federation’s Board of Directors, serving as president from 2018 to 2022. Joe was a beloved part of the Federation family, leading by example with scientific rigor, integrity, and humor.
Joe Ramus was awarded the Order of the Longleaf Pine, one of the highest civilian honors in the state, in 2019 for his contributions to science and education, and his environmental leadership as president of the Coastal Federation's Board of Directors.
The Coastal Federation is grateful for the longtime friendship and support of the Ramus family, whose commitment to the coast has made a lasting difference.
